They were married for 20 years when dad passed away. I can’t possibly understand what it must have been like for my mother who not just lost her husband but her college sweetheart and best friend. She was broken and so were my brother and I. I couldn’t bear to see her that way.
I decided to do something about it so I came up with a plan to help her, and each other, get through the dreaded date every month by doing something special for her. Sometimes she received a small gift like a plant or a pouch and sometimes there were movie or dinner dates with her kids. I am not sure how much it helped but it was good to see her smile at least once a month. And that’s always enough to light my world.
